Description
The seine boat was towed by the seining schooner and carried the gear needed to capture the fish - net, weights and fshermen. When a school of Mackerel was sighted, the seine boat was launched and was rowed by 8-10 men to circle the school as the net was paid out. Then, the two ends were passed back aboard the schooner and pursed, trapping the fish inside.
>
Gloucester seiners avidly pursued the fish from south of New Jersey to well into the Bay Challeure of Canada each spring and summer from the late 1800s to the present.
